Inflammation Management

Manage Pain Before It Begins To (Mis)Manage You!

What you eat and drink can either release you or ensnare you further in the inflammation trap. Soreness, pain and sensitivity can negatively affect how we function. Pain affects not just the physical functioning of the body, but how we function and go about our everyday activities. Crabbiness, feeling low and listless and mood swings are also some of the direct responses to pain, albeit ones that don’t really make it go away! What could help, however, is eating food rich in nutrients may help manage inflammation.

If ignored, minor inflammation has the potential to develop into chronic pain. Exercising moderately, getting consistent sleep, and reaching your healthy body weight are simple ways that may help combat inflammation within the body.

Inflammation Management Information & Research

Q.1 Diet & Inflammation

Inflammation occurs when the body’s tissues are injured by free radicals and toxins (1). Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats may help manage the effects of inflammation. Avoiding fried or processed foods, especially foods with high sugar content, may help. Foods that include omega-3 fatty acids and curcumin have been shown to be helpful in controlling inflammation. (2)

Q.2 Why is curcumin an anti-inflammatory?

Curcumin is a component of the spice turmeric. It contains bioactive compounds known as curcuminoids, which support heart-healthy immune function. Not only this, they also support healthy joint function by restricting whole-body inflammation and by helping to promote healthy organ function. (3)

Q.3 Does regular exercise regulate inflammation?

Regular movement and physical exercise can help your body in multiple ways, including in your fight against inflammation. Gentle exercises, such as yoga, may help you experience relief from inflammation while enhancing other aspects of your life, too. Yoga has been shown to improve reported effects of various chronic pain types, especially back pain. A 12-week yoga program may help soothe back pain. (4)
